So a few years back, Smartwatches started to hit the market and Pebble was the leader. Me being the early adopter that I am purchased a Pebble Smartwatch and within 24 hours returned it. The thing that bothered me about it was that every notification I was getting on my phone was also pushed to the watch with almost zero control accept to change my phone settings. I ever wrote about how useless smartwatches were and you can read that here
I truly hated the thing. It did not make sense to me. Why would I need to get notifications on my wrist that I was already getting on my phone? The thing was, I was at a job where my phone was readily available to me and I was always able to have it with me. Even still at my current job, I am able to have my phone right there with me.
Ever since Apple released the first Apple Watch, I have been enthralled by it. It was elegant and it made sense to me
However, I did not get that watch, or the Series 2, because I still felt I did not have a need for it. So what changed?
With the Apple Watch Series 3, Apple introduced an LTE watch. This allowed the watch to mirror the phone number of the iPhone it was paired to and send and receive phone calls without the phone being in range. At first, I felt this was dumb. Why would I be anywhere without my phone? Then I began to realize that it was good for the quick run to the grocery store, or at the gym, or even just taking the dog for a walk around the neighborhood.
So, it has been a week since I have had my Apple Watch and I am glad I got it. From text notifications to hockey scores, to heart rate and activity monitoring, I have found so many uses for it. Being able to customize the notifications the Watch gives me has been the real game changer that convinced me that wearable tech is a good thing.
