BREAKING NEWS: The Tampa Bay Lightning have acquired goaltender Peter Budaj, defenseman Erik Cernak, a seventh-round pick in the 2017 NHL draft as well as a conditional pick in 2017 from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for goaltender Ben Bishop and a fifth-round selection in 2017.
This move was anticipated by most people. With the expansion draft looming the Lightning needed to figure out which goaltender to protect as well as open up cap space. This move frees up a $5.9M cap hit. With Bishop due to be a free agent at the end of the season the Lightning had no choice but to move him in order to keep their offensive core in place. I just hope Vassy is up to task
