Dan Cloutier vs Tommy Salo 4/4/1998

One of the most storied rivalries in hockey is the New York Rangers vs the New York Islanders. These games, especially in the late 90’s and early 2000’s were physical wars that always brought out the….best….in players. And one of the biggest spectacles in hockey is always a goalie fight.

On April 4, 1998, these two teams met once again. The battle ground? Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Long Island. With 6:59 remain in the third period and the Islander leading 3-0 PJ Stock lands a hit on Zedeno Chara, followed by a bit a cheap shot by Darren Langden. the players gathered to discuss the matter.P.J. Stock and Mariusz Czerkawski decided they needed to have a private conversation regarding this matter and took it to the corner. Islander Goaltender Tommy Salo decided he needed to interject. This brought noted goalie fighter and Rangers Goaltender Dan Cloutier down the rink for a chat with Salo. The rest, well see for yourself below, the rest is Rangers vs Islander history
