Review: Disturbed and Breaking Benjamin Tour

One of the the most anticipated tours of the summer kicked off last night featuring hard rock icons Disturbed and Breaking Benjamin along with special guests Alter Bridge and Saint Asonia. The first show of this power house tour took place at the newly built and beautiful Lakeview Amphitheater in Syracuse NY. The venue has been some what of a hot button conversation around Syracuse NY as it was a county project costing $50 Million and not everyone was in favor of it. Never the less, the venue it self is gorgeous and as a resident of Syracuse, I feel fortunate it have such a beautiful venue. We had lawn seats but as you can see from our photos and videos our view was awesome

As for the bands, lets start at the beginning. From the day this tour was announce I was really looking forward to finally seeing Saint Asonia. A band comprised of the bassist from Stereomud, guitarist from Staind and the lead singer of Three Days Grace. They played their hits Better Place and Let Me Live My Life much to the crowds delight. They also played the Three Days Grace hit I Hate Everything About You.

Alter Bridge, for me, left a lot to be desired. They seemed out of place on this tour with the longer power ballad style songs vs the hard and heavy styles of the other three acts. I was not impressed with them at all

Next up was Breaking Benjamin. They absolutely tour the house down. This was my first time seeing them live. I was pleasantly surprised by the number of songs I knew the words too. I guess I was a fan and did not even know it. They played all of their hits and even did a cover melody featuring the Star Wars Imperial March/Tool’s “Schism”/Pantera’s “Walk” and Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit”. Check out my video of the Imperial March

Hear is the set list for Breaking Benjamin:

“So Cold”
“Angels Fall”
“Sooner or Later”
“Blow Me Away”
“The Imperial March/Schism/Smells Like Teen Spirit/Walk”
“Ashes of Eden”
“Until the End”
“I Will Not Bow”
“The Diary of Jane”

After a lengthy set change Disturbed finally took the stage. After a 5 year hiatus and new album, I was pumped. They had an impressive video package which reminded us that “When music is the weapon, we are indestructible.” The video was also a retrospective of their touring career. The band held nothing back opening their set with “Ten Thousand Fists” and “The Game”

They wow’d the crowd with their outstanding rendition of “Sound of Silence”

They went through all of their hits. Lead singer David Draiman had full control of the crowd referring to us as “his brothers his sisters, his blood” With no encore performance, they informed the crowd that Syracuse had in fact been infected with “the sickness” before closing their show with their hit “Down With the Sickness

Here is Disturbed set list

“Ten Thousand Fists”
“The Game”
“The Vengeful One”
“The Sound of Silence” (Simon & Garfunkel cover)
“Inside the Fire”
“The Light”
“Down with the Sickness”

After their set the band posed for a photo with the entire crowd

This was an amazing show in an amazing venue. I have tickets for two more shows this summer Slipknot/Marilyn Manson and Korn/Rob Zombie and I cannot wait. My only complaint is leaving the parking lot at the end of the night left a lot to be desired as it took over an hour. All in all I rate the experience 4 out 5.
