OK, I guess it should probably discuss this. Its been out for a while and everyone (but me) has broken down the trailer for next years Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice. I guess I have been avoiding it because, well, I am not sure why I am avoiding it. So before we get into it. Here is the trailer.
Ok so lets dive head first right into it shall we. Seemingly from these shots, the film picks up exactly where Man of Steel ends
Which is how, I guess, Batman comes to hate Superman. Seemingly he will blame him and ultimately hold him responsible for the deaths of innocent civilians. The trailer opens with a scene of Superman entering into what appears to be a court room or maybe even a congressional committee of some kind
This speaks to the idea that earth still has not accepted or recognized superheros into their society. This scene seemed very familiar to the opening scene of the Justice League cartoon, in which Superman warns the world of alien threats, states that he, alone, will protect earth from those threats. This promise obviously turns out to be too big for even Sups to deal with, which brings use to the formation of the Justice League. Something tells me, this film will follow a similar arch.
The trailer does not say much in the way of how we are introduced to Batman. We do see a shot of a batarang in the wall and Batman referred to as a vigilante and “The Batman” and there is, yet another, scene depicting the murder of Martha and Thomas Wayne. Unclear if we will have a Batman origin story or just origin pieces. Here is hoping to just pieces as we all know the origin story. However what is curious is the fact that he is referred to as a vigilante as almost an unknown and yet we clearly see a Robin suit hanging in what can only be assumed to be the Batcave
Continuing on the them of the Robin suit. It says “Jokes on you Batman” with HAHAH proceeding it. So we clearly have established Joker and the death of Robin (presumably Jason Todd) which means Batman is established. Can it be that Batman is only known within Gotham city limits and because of his feud with Superman is now appearing in Metropolis for the first time? If we recall the Joel Schumacher film Batman Forever, when speaking with Dick Grayson, Bruce Wayne mentions that “..the circus has to be half way to Metropolis by now..”. Furthermore we see a scene of Wayne Enterprise building collapsing in the battle with General Zod. So how close is Metropolis to Gotham? If they are close, how can they NOT know about Batman? So many unanswered questions, and it seems like the trailer contradicts itself. I guess we will just have to wait and see.
Last but certainly not least WONDER WOMAN
We finally got to see Gal Gadot (גל גדות) as Wonder Woman. Now, to be honest I am personally not a fan of Wonder Woman. However after years of failed attempts to bring Wonder Woman to life, we finally have it and that alone is exciting.
All in all I am excited for this film. It will do its job in connecting the DC Comics Trinity and establishing Earths need for The Justice League.
One Shot: Anyone think this photo of Batman has a real Jason Todd/Red Hood feel to it?
